Whichever welding process is used there will always be some level of dust, smoke, and fumes in the air. Long-term the inhalation of these pollutants are potentially hazardous to all those working in the welding environment and can lead to all kinds of diseases and chronic conditions.
Extraction and filtration units are commonly used to remove welding smoke and polluted air from the workplace. The important factor is to ensure that the filtration unit you use fits your operational needs.
Kemper America supplies a wide variety of units in different sizes and configurations. These range from large central extraction units that can cope with the entire workshop to mobile units that can be used at different points of operation, depending on where they are needed.
Two particularly useful mobile units, both of which boast high vacuum filters, are the Dusty and the VacuFil 500.
Dusty High Vacuum Filter Unit
Ideal for mobile use including repair work and frequently changing workplaces, Dusty can cope with low to medium levels of dust and smoke.
The machine is 690 mm high and measures 300 mm x 300 mm. Highly portable and easy to move, it weighs only 24 kg and has two suction nozzles for intermittent use.
Dusty offers manual filter cleaning of its KemTex ePTFE filter cartridge, and boasts filter efficiency of more than 99.9 percent. This makes the unit exceptionally economical to use. Surface filtration (the filter surface measures ca. 1.35 square meters) ensures the best possible health protection for those working in the welding environment.
The machine also offers stepless speed control that provides optimal adjustment and features a suction turbine fan.
VacuFil 500
Larger and more powerful than the Dusty unit, VacuFil 500 is suitable for welding environments that produce high levels of dust and smoke. Also, rather than manual cleaning, it features pressure-controlled automatic filter cleaning of the cartridge through an ePTFE filter membrane. The filter surface is considerably larger too (ca. 10 square meters), and there is a dust collection container incorporated in the design of the unit.
The unit also features a side channel compressor that creates negative pressure in this way ensuring non-stop robust performance that is ideal for industrial users. It also has a side channel blower fan.
Standing 1,370 mm high, the VacuFil 500 measures 1,200 mm (depth) x 655 mm (width) and it weighs 264 kg.
The VacuFil 500 is not intended for mobile use, and it can be used on multiple workstations depending on the model used. It is also possible to connect this high vacuum unit to a central pipe system. There are a total of four different models to choose from with different port sizes and capacities. The options are:
- Four connection ports with a diameter of 45 mm
- One connection port with a diameter of 100 mm
- Four intake sockets NW 45 mm and automatic flow rate adjustment
- One intake socket NW 100 mm and automatic flow rate adjustment
This high vacuum unit offers exceptionally high efficiency and the best health protection possible. It is also very flexible and offers uninterrupted continuous operation.
