How to Ensure Your Workplace Always Has Clean Air

July 31, 2017 By Kemper America

It doesn’t matter which industry you work in, it is essential that your employees operate in an environment with clean air. This can be a challenge when processes used in a workshop or on a factory floor produce pollutants including welding fumes, smoke, dust, and other toxins.

If left unchecked, these pollutants commonly cause eye, nose, and throat irritations, and sometimes lung and respiratory conditions. They are frequently responsible for a wide variety of illnesses some of which are normally short-lived, while they can also cause ongoing health problems that, like cancer, can result in death.

Machines and Devices That Keep Air Clean

There is a host of filter and extraction units that can be used to keep the air clean in the workplace. There are also many ventilation systems including different types of local exhaust systems that can be used to remove pollutants from the air and keep it clean. Local exhaust systems are usually very effective, but sometimes this type of equipment is difficult to use, for instance:

  • In situations where work stations change a lot
  • Where large machinery and other big items are manufactured
  • When work areas are located in a large factory or warehouse environment and they are not all accessible to each other

The best, most technologically advanced option in these situations is undoubtedly Kemper America’s award-winning CleanAirTower, an 11 ft 8 in- or 3.5 m-high device with a diameter of 3 ft 9 ins (1.2 m.) The CleanAirTower weighs 1,620 lbs (less than 735 kg) and has a maximum airflow of 353 cfm ensuring that minimal turbulence is created which, in turn, stops dust and other pollutants from being shifted into clean areas.

It is an ideal solution for any production or logistic areas, and workplaces or factory environments that are subject to changing dust and smoke sources. It is also an excellent supplement to local exhaust ventilation, particularly when this is inadequate.

How The CleanAirTower Works

This amazing ventilation tower has been designed to function according to the simple, fail-safe principle of displacement ventilation, which is approved and recommended by world-class health and safety standards.

Basically, the way it works is it constantly extracts dust and warm, polluted rising air drawing it into the top section of the tower. This contaminated air enters the pipework inside the tower and is purified via a two-stage filter system that removes fumes, dust and other minute particles as it sinks to the base of the tower. Then the clean air is pushed out at the base of the tower and into the work zone.

It is a much more efficient system than the tradition push-pull system that relies on extensive ductwork to get rid of contaminated air. With push-pull systems, there is considerably more air turbulence and so it is inevitable that some of the dust and polluted air gets back into the “clean” air. On the other hand, the dust and other particles filtered through the CleanAirTower are deposited into bins within the system that are regularly removed, emptied, and cleaned.

You owe it to your employees to keep the air clean in their work environment. Kemper can help you today.
